Tableaux is a collection of one-off coffee tables that provides the Anchor studio a framework to explore the new material atmospheres developed through the studio's ongoing R&D program. Designed by Bruce Rowe in 2023 and made by Anchor, each table is varied in size, height, colour, material and surface. Drawing from the rich resource of the Anchor R&D material library, each table in the series is a unique design object that will not be reproduced.
Tableaux are paired with raised plinths, made using the same techniques and materials. Smaller format tables are paired with one plinth and larger format tables with two plinths of varied heights. The free standing plinths invite people to place and group objects as they like, elevating them above the base table surface to arrange their own points of view and objects to create a table-based landscape.
The Tableaux surfaces are drawn from the ceramic inquiry of Anchor’s creative practice. Rich, scenic surfaces and new material combinations are continually revealed in the making process. Each Tableaux is singular in technique and composition and crafted at the highest level of artisanal making.
Ceramic surfaces are made using innovative, proprietary combinations of ceramic materials that have been diverted from landfill. Surface glazes and finishes are developed and refined in the Anchor studio, informed by rigorous experimentation and testing. Exterior grade materials allow Tableaux to be used across environments and applications. Each Tableaux is tagged with a unique identifier.
The Tableaux editions are available exclusively through Stahl + Band
